Dear Internet, My little pricing experiment with Pixel Pix is over, and the results are pretty definitive: people want free apps! My original thesis was that having the app be free for a week to get the ball rolling would translate into sales when we started charging $1, which most people I’ve talked to consider the “no brainer” level for purchasing an app. Considering we had...

Dear Internet, I went out to dinner with my friend, the Internet’s Greg Knauss, last night. We had burgers and talked about the my two favorite topics right now, babies and app store sales trends. It is all blurring together for me now. I have thoughts like, “how much should we charge for our baby when it launches?” and “Oh no, Pixel Pix hasn’t made a peep in 15...

Dear Internet, Did you have a good weekend?  I did! Adam left early on Saturday morning. I drove him to the airport, and we shared a long, long, long hug in the drop off zone. Eventually, the cops had to come over and pry us apart. Adam was sobbing as he walked into the airport. It was a heart wrenching scene of manlove. In the afternoon, Katie and I went out to see Wanderlust, a new movie by...

Dear Internet, As per usual, it has been a ridiculously busy couple of days here at XOXCO HQ.  Monday, I spent almost all day in a panic after Apple rejected Pixel Pix.  That effort was a roaring success, as Tuesday Pixel Pix was approved and hit the app store at around 5pm, and sold hundreds of copies in just a few hours.  But you know all that and are probably on the edge of unfollowing me...

I’m disappointed that Pixel Pix isn’t out yet, so to assuage my anger, I am going to give away more copies of Make Pixel Art for iPad via our Twitter account.  If you have an iPad or know someone who does, get on it now! I’ll be passing out codes for the next hour or so.

Dear Internet, Today is President’s Day, which is one of the days we decided that XOXCO is closed for business. Of course, that just means I’ll be working on stuff from my couch instead of my office. I can play the stereo louder here. I AM THAT I AM, folks. I actually woke up early this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep because I was thinking about whether or not Pixel...

To those of you who are anxiously awaiting the release of Pixel Pix: This morning, I received a notice from Apple that said the review process was going to take longer than usual. I’m not sure why, but this happens from time to time. There is a slim chance the app will still be out this evening. I will tweet about it on the @PixelPixApp twitter account the moment it is available.

doug posted this in response to my post from earlier.  I couldn’t have said it better: There will always be 18-20 year olds for fluffy press stories looking to pretend that everyone is creating the next big thing. These stories are sensational, at best, and almost always horse shit. However, there will also always be far more people to make smile and delight with one’s work, and that’s...

Dear internet, I woke up this morning to the local news radio airing a story about how UT computer science students each have 2 jobs waiting for them upon graduation, and that the starting salary of a computer program these days ranges from $70,000 to $100,000 a year.  Someone with 0 years of experience in my industry can earn 6 figures. And this has got me thinking that, though I’ve got...
